Misti Volcano – 2 days
150$
Willing to climb the iconic volcano of Arequipa? It is not technical, but is a real challenge!
Day 1 : Arequipa – Misti Basecamp (4600m)
We leave this morning around 9a.m from Arequipa to the base of Misti volcano (3,400m). Then we’ll have 1200 meters to climb until basecamp. The views of Arequipa, especially by night, are amazing.
Transport : 1h
Hiking time : 4h
Height difference : +1200m
Day 2 : Basecamp – Summit – Arequipa
We’ll start our ascent very early in the morning so that we can reach the summit after 5 or 6 hours climbing. The panorama from the top is incredible. We have amazing views on Chachani (6075m) and Pichu Pichu (5664m) volcanoes, also on the Salinas salt lake and Ubinas (5700m)! We can go to the base of the crater which is still active.
Then going down to the basecamp is quite a lot of fun since we’ll walk in sand and ashes. Finally we’ll have to get back to where the car dropped us the day before, at 3,400m. We should be back in Arequipa around 2 or 3p.m.
